This is a 1943 nickel produced during WWII during an metallic nickel shortage, so this coin is composed of 35% silver. It is an incredibly rare doubled die obverse, in which the die used to strike this coin was imperfect, and had a doubled design. If you look at Jefferson's eye you can see a complete SECOND EYE just to the south. Doubled die, more like Double eye! Strong doubling seen on the date and LIBERTY as well. On top of all that, this nickel is full steps. Meaning that each of the steps on the reverse Monticello is full and complete.
Most extant examples of this DDO are in poor shape, so this variety in this shape is practically one of a kind.
I genuinely hate to see this coin go, its easily my best find but times are tough.
To verify this variety, check NGC Variety-Plus this coin is titled FS-106, also as:
CONECA: DDO-006
Fivaz-Stanton: FS-029
VarietyPlus: VP-002

Check out my collection of US coins, junk silver, and other collectibles on my page. Happy to bundle!
